1992 GW Seafarer Drain Plug

I measured my drain plug and the whole is about 1/2 inch. I bought 1/2 inch but they are to big. Does any one have a boat like this and know what size drain plug to use. I know this sounds crazy but I'm not sure on how to measure the whole and which drain plug to buy.

You're referring to the drain plug located on the outer transom side of the boat, correct? If so, something like this or just about anything else locally as well should work. If you have a marine supply store nearby, you could also check them out as well. Here in the Seattle area, we've got Harbor Marine, West Marine, Fisheries Supply and several other stores readily available that you can get things like this in person at.

If I'm not mistaken it's a 1/2 inch npt pipe plug

I'd go to my local dealer and talk to a service guy. They have em hanging around and will prob give you one.

You have to buy based on the TYPE of threads it is - as others mentioned, it's a pipe thread. That's different than an actual 1/2" measurement.

If you don't have a marine store nearby, buy it based on being a pipe thread. 3/8" pipe.

Or, measure more accurately and buy it based on it's OD matching the hole's ID.

You're buying a bronze one, right?

If you mean the plug that drains the bilge, my 2020 is 1/2 inch NPT. I do have bronze ones with wings on them, but I bought a handful of PVC ones just so I'd have spares.

If you mean the drain in the fish boxes, I don't plug those so I dunno. Easy enough to get a caliper in there and measure. I think mine are about 5/8".

I found out my dilemma... The drain plug is 1/2 inch but it is a drain plug with a drain plug inside it, which is a smaller diameter. I removed the 1/2 inch with the whole and put a normal 1/2 inch and now I'm in business. Thanks for all the advice.

Huh? Garboard drain plugs (which is the "norm" to discuss when talking about drain plugs) are a bronze plug/socket. What you wrote doesn't jive?

Here is the drain plug. As you can see, it is a half inch drain plug with a drain in the middle. The size alluded my, but once I realized I only needed a half in plug, I was good to go...

That's a1/2 to 3/4 male reducer, not a plug. Also make sure that you get bronze, not brass.

This is why pics are important - or good descriptions with proper terminology. As mentioned above, that's a reducer fitting, not a plug within a plug.

A normal garboard drain plug, made of bronze, should work.

But at this point, you bought something that works. Is it bronze? I hope so...
