I think 200HPDIs would be sweet.

As I've noted in other posts, I was seriously looking at a pair of Suzuki DF175s, but there was no firm price and no firm shipping date available when we were ready to do the repower.

A pair of F225s would have been nice, too.. :D

I have a 2000 Islander (hull extends to transom) with a Suzuki 300 and am very happy with the set up. IIRC, I was getting about 28 knot cruise at 13.5 gph using the Suzuki 16 x 18.5 prop.

Greg , what motor was on there before the Suzie?

Any performance info on old vs. new ?

Need to play with props more but fuel economy is up substantially and top end is now around 40+ mph vs 35-36 before with the single SWS 250. Economy seems to be up about 50% but I haven't been on the boat since July. :(

That is a great improvement, and seems right in line with our repower.

We went from a single 250HP OX66 to the twin F150s. WOT went from 30+kts to 37+ knots, so we are just a bit faster than Greg's single 300HP Suzuki. (I attribute this to the tested HP of the F150s at 160-162).

We went from a best cruise of 22-24kts at 1.2-1.3 nmpg to a best cruise of 27-28kts at 1.6-1.7nmpg. So our cruise speed increased by about 22% with about a 32% improvement in fuel efficiency. But we are getting a bit less nmpg than Greg.

WOT fuel consumption remains the same at 28GPH, so we went from 1.07nmpg to 1.32 nmpg at WOT (a 24% improvement).

As I noted above, a pair of DF175s would be really nice... :D

No, not underpropped or overpropped. Did a lot of work with a local prop shop, and had both the original SWS 15.25"x17" and a PowerTech OFS4-17". Could do 5400-5500RPM with either one.

As I noted in my post on Wednesday, we experienced a lot of prop slip with the single. Less with the 4-blade than the 3-blade, but still far too much. I still attribute it to "dirty water" behind the two scoop injector shells (washdown and livewell).

Note that I use knots and Greg used MPH. Our WOT with the single was just over 30.5kts, or about 35.1MPH. Greg noted 35-36MPH for his top speed before the repower. So, no difference.

I see there is now a verado 350 due out this year. Any thoughts on that option for the islander??? Seems like a lot of power being squeezed out of the same block they use on the 200....

Never mind, it looks like a racing engine with 93 octane mandatory. 350 hp for less than 700 lbs sure would be nice though.

The Mercury Racing Opti's and Verados are great for those who have sponsors or enogh $ to not care about warranties. For a go-fast type, the Opti 300 XS? is a great motor, it's putting out way over 300 HP.

It's really too bad that this post got turned into an argument about single vs twins. This was not the point of the post. I AM SOLD ON THE ASPECT OF A SINGLE ENGINE vs TWINS..............to me it's obvious! I just wanted to know the feelings about the Zuke engine and company sypport.

I think my first post on this thread addressed your initial question, and I think the 300 Zuke would be fine.
