Looking into potential purchase of 24' voyager.... has a assuming 96' 225 Johnson ocean runner on the back...

#1 question: Is this under powered for this boat?

#2. It doesnt have a bracket... can anyone give me an idea of how much room is on the back of this boat? I am looking between a boat like this and a 22' Seafarer with a bracket... Is the room about equal?

#3 What is a fair price for a boat like this with a trailer... they are asking 18k is there a little more wiggle room left?

Thanks
Dan

#1) Save everyone some work:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16387

#2) Don't know. Grady site might be of help.

#3) Depends on condition. We paid $21 for our mint '99 w/ ~ 100 hours. I think few have that little for what we found. Paying a little more for a sound machine is worth every penny.

Good Luck!

I have a 1996 Voyager with the same motor.
I don't have any trouble with the power on my voyager as it does everything I need. That 2 stroke is strong!

The only problem I have is the fuel consumption. The newer outboards get much better numbers.
That said I love my voyager and the layout for family as well as fishing.
I think I gave around 22k w/trailer for mine about 3 years ago and things have changed.
My boat had no bottom paint and was well maintained very clean. I was confortable with what I gave for the boat at the time.
The question you have to ask yourself is are you confortable with price they are asking.

answer #2 Voyager has 55 sq ft of deck space, Seafarer has 49.

GW catalog for that year shows Yamaha and Johnson 225HP motors in the photos for the Voyager.

If you buy a pre VS2 hull, and then try one that is a VS2, you will wish you went with the 96... especially at the price range you are shoping in.

woodworker2001,

I don't know what you do or don't know, but a boat kept in water for 17 years can have all sorts of issues if not maintained. If you plan to trailer the boat and not dock it, the upkeep on the bottom paint alone is no fun.

We bought our boat from Florida and brought it back to lake Erie, but it was never docked and had no bottom paint.

I don't know where you live, but in North Ridgeville Ohio (close to the lake) there is an Explorer for sale that was docked. Is this the one you are looking at? I know little about them.

no it isnt the one year we are looking at... I am not sure yet if we are going to keep the boat in the water or not at this point...

I am not terribly familar with bottom paint as I have never had a boat with it on it...

Do you have any particulars on the boat you know of for sale... I am in Sandusky, oh
