I have a new to me 1998 228. The live well somtimes takes on water. I have located the thru hull but there is no way to reach the handle to close it. The live well itself is in the way. I was wondering if there is another way to access it. It looks as though I might need to remove the livewell to access the through hull. Thanks for any help with this

You have to remove your livewell and install the actuating rods.

Well thank you Don, but I have to tell you that my bilge is not the cleanest. There is a character on here that's called KY Grady and he has been brow beating me for a few years now with pictures of his bilge. Thank goodness I had a therapist that helped me through my shame for my dirty bilge after seeing the pictures of Ky Gradys' bilge. I sold that boat with the moldy bilge as part of my therapy. When I went shopping for my present boat I didn't look at anything but the condition of the bilge.;) With any luck he may see this thread and show you a really clean bilge. Calling all bilge pictures.....

See what I was telling you Don. Doesn't that just beat all. The man has no compassion for the rest of us trying to play catch-up.:)
Yes quite impressive, I wish I still had the pictures of what the bilge look liked like when I first bought my Seafarer. Rusty, oily scum in the bottom 6 inches of the bilge. I was hanging upside down scrubbing it with bartender’s friend and Mr Clean scrubbers for hours but it did eventually come somewhat clean but not even close to your guy’s bilges. Is there “bilge envy“ in the medical journals?

Once you get all the oily residue gone with a good detergent, then you can get some of the black stains out using that stuff called "30 Second" . You get it at Home Depot. Scrub with that and let it sit in the bilge, scrubbing occasionally to keep all the surfaces wet for 15 minutes or so.
