I took my boat out today and noticed 2 stroke oil coming out of the seam below the engine cover. When I removed the cover I could see the oul dripping out of the bottom of the airbox on the port side of the motor. Is there a hose anywhere in that area that the oil would be coming from? I'm going to order a service manual but I'm trying to figure out which one would be the best.

The vin says 6K7 UL 752988

Any help is appreciated

Thanks
Mark

You didn't mention what year.
On our 225 oil will collect at the bottom of the silencer too. There is a small vacuum line going to either the crank case or intake manifold (can't remember which one) to pull this back into the engine to avoid a significant puddle of oil. That said, there is still some oil that collects here, but I have never noticed it dripping off the silencer.

If you or someone else had previously removed the silencer it is possible that they didn't connect a hose. You may need to pull the silencer to be sure all hoses are connected.

Sorry The motor is a 93. I know the hose your talking about it is connected. The leak was fairly significant and was dripping steadily out of the silencer. I have the boat on a trailer in my yard. I tried to duplicate the problem by running it in the driveway but as usual it didn't happen. I was wondering if it was the float that might have got stuck and overfilled the oil tank then the oil came out the tube at the top which is connected to the silencer. Thats the only thing I can think as to why the oil would be coming out where it was.

When you ran the engine, did you have a vacuum from the tube connected to the bottom of the silencer? Could it simply be blocked?
I'm not familiar with the function of a yamaha carbed engine, but I would think a stuck float could do the same thing regardless of the vacuum tube being attached to the bottom of the silencer. If that were the case I would also think your engine would smoke terribly at start up until the excess oil burned off.

I didnt know that the bottom hose was supposed to have a vacuum. I'll check it next time if I can. The amount coming out was a lot more than just a drip that would be taken up by that bottom hose though.

If you notice the oil dripping out of the bottom of the cowling AFTER the motor was stored tilted up, the leak is probably oil that leaked out of the main oil tank through the sensor cap. It leaks down into the cowling but doesn't leak out until the motor is tilted down. Leaks from the main tank sensor cap are common. Sometimes just cleaning the cap and reseating it is enough. Some folks use a tie wrap around the cap to make the seal tighter. If that is what the leak is, it's not a serious issue just annoying.

Already have a tie around the cap. The bottle is dry outside. It was pouring out the bottom of the silencer while under way.

This is exactly what happened to me this weekend, along with a spun prop hub..I also found someone had stuffed fish guts up under my kicker, both batteries dead and one neg terminal off...wtf... it was not a good day. Positive was I got her started with my jump pack...... headed out and prop went south on me, had to fire up the kicker back to the dock. glad I have one :)
