I posted a few comments awhile back about my initial experiences with an etec 150 on my 83 226 seafarer. Now with 2 years under my belt, I am still very pleased. It has actually surpassed expectations.
I had actually joked with a friend that if I posted pics on THT of my vintage Grady, with notched transom, and a underpowered 2 stroke etec..... it might have collapsed the site.... the trolls would have lost their minds.... lol.
Anyhow, the 150 is more than enough power for an older 226, or 208 etc.
it gets our loads up quick.... 4 adult men... 5 or 6 scuba tanks, gear, ice etc.
I’m not sure what prop I have, but it must be “geared down”. I never open it up fully as I don’t care about top end. It holds speed and tons very solid in following swells etc.
In summary,
Think about the small block g1 etecs for older boats.
