my '02 has twin f200's. all 400 horses aren't needed unless you really want to fly, but the twins are very good at close quarter handling with the 232.
A single 250 is not enough in my opinion.
Too low on power, plus you lose the maneuverability of twins. Twins plane the boat better. cruise faster and if one fails.........you got the other one.
I have twin 200 4-strokes on mine and it's a great combo.
I have been to three Grady dealerships over the past six months and each one was showing the 232 in their show rooms with the F350. Dealers at the boat shows also feature the F350 on the 232. Add those facts to the other posts above and you can figure that you are most likely underpowered with that motor.
I had a Gulfstream with a OX66 250. Imo the boat performed just fine. Easily got up on plane, cruise was around 24 mph @ 4300 rpm, maxed out just under 40 mph @ 5500 rpm. It would have been nice to have more power, but again... it wasn't a big issue.
In agreement with catch22. My figures are very similar and close quarter handling is manageable. Tilt your motor up about halfway so that the reverse thrust doesn't just reflect off the transom and the boat handles fine with a little practice.
Nice boat. Check the forward "rigging boxes" that are attached to the forward bulkhead for rot at the bottom. I got replacements from GW and sealed the edges well before I installed the new panels.
Tap on the formica with a screwdriver to see if it is delaminated/rotten.
