Gentlemen - I am a newbie here. This site was recommended when I started asking Grady questions elsewhere. Looking at a 2001 GW 300 Marlin with a pair of 2001 Yamaha 250 ox66's. Any info on this boat/motor combo would be appreciated. Will be using the boat for offshore fishing so real time fuel burn numbers with a load would be great. Also, will be getting the boat surveyed but welcome any info on problem things to look out for. Positive comments about the boat are also welcome.

Thanks in advance for your input.

welcome aboard Paul. You can find a wealth of information with the "search" function. Most of the time someone has already spent the time to figure out an issue. Now all you need to do is ask and the replies usually fly in. Also if you call or email Grady customer service they treat you like you bought a new boat yesterday. It amazes me sometimes. Good luck with the survey and let us know how it turns out. Check out the test data.

Thanks for the reply np. I have a copy of the specs that you attached. Hopefully a 300 Marlin owner will respond with their actual numbers and confirm or dispute the test numbers based on experience.

Marlin numbers

Mine is a 2007, but with a full load of Ice, fuel, fishing gear, and 4 guys on board, I run it at 4100 RPM (Gray white recommend best economy) depending on seas of course, and it burns 20.5 gallons per hour. Sometimes I get in a hurry and run at 4200, burns 21 gal per hour. The boat seems to like 4200, 26+ knots, 32 miles an hour.
What other numbers do you want?

The fuel burn numbers posted by G'rilla look good and I am sure they are helpfull, but if his boat is a 2007 I bet it has four strokes rather than the OX66 on your boat. There could be a wide difference in fuel burn.

Great boat and HP setup. The 66's are supposed to be one of the most reliable 2 stroke Yamaha ever produced. Only my opinion: On the resale side......2 strokes will be (much) more difficult for you to sell this boat in let's say 5 years.

I have the same boat and engines, Its a great combo, but she does love the gasoline and oil. The performance specs are under ideal conditions and a clean hull. I have never been able to match them even right after having the bottom scraped, sanded, and repainted. The way i see it those 66's are reliable and you can buy a whole lot of oil and gas for what new pair of 4 strokes cost. My engines are right ot the 1000 hour mark and I plan to run'em til they give up the ghost. As for the boat, she is great, plenty of room and a good ride!
