What's up guys this forum has helped me with so much. I have a 2002 282 Sailfish and since I got the boat the pump out has never worked. (I made sure the seacock is open.) I believe I have a Groco Macerator Pump that is an inernal unit. This thread talks about a similar issue but not the modification and replacement of the pump. I would like to either replace the pump or possibly install an external pump. I figure with an external pump it may be easier to manage and maintain was thinking of something like a whale gulper pump. Thoughts?

After deeper digging I found a better thread talking about this mod. This looks very similar to what I need to get done.

Nice job - totally agree with the existing opening being too small. If you are lean enough to squeeze into the opening be prepared to come covered in battle wounds from the raw fiberglass edges of the opening. You would thing given all the mechanicals in that hole GW would have made a decent smooth finish access opening.

You need to decide if the solution is real!

I looked at the Whale pumps. I decided to go with the Jabsco. I reworked everything and all seems good. Use silicone hoses - easier to open up but a little pricey.

Hookup, what is the 2nd photo showing?
I put a vented loop to relieve back pressure on the overboard pumpout. Not sure if its needed but I did it later.

Getting these pumps to "lift" can be a real problem. The silicone hoses help - they seal well. Back pressure on the outlet affects it too.

For all it's messy problems the Groco system is great when it is working.
