Hi all, looking to add either seadek or plasteek or flexiteek to my Grady. I have been given estimates all over the place. Seadek said it was ~100 sq ft, then plasteek said 150 for same amount. Here is the layout to be done.

Any idea what is correct? 2009 Marlin 300 Proof BSF # 1471.jpg

I just went out and measured my 228, much smaller version of your boat. Just the cockpit and the helm is 60 square feet, so I think that part would be about 85 square feet in your boat. Then there is all the rest you are doing, I'd guess somewhere around 120 total.

That said, I looked into seadek for my boat, didn't do it because they set my expectations at about $2K for a pretty similar setup to your picture, came and measured and said almost $6K. I said hell no.

As I've learned more, I'm glad I passed. Yeah, the seadek (or whatever) looks really nice when it is brand new, but if your boat is a fishing machine like mine, it will quickly get covered in fish blood and guts and it doesn't clean up anywhere as "easily" as the naked boat does.

If your boat is a party cruiser, wine and cheese, no real dirt sources, then by all means, seadek would look fantastic. Just not for a fishing boat until you've tried to clean it.

All we do is fish and our Marlin has sea dek. It easy to keep clean as long as you get the hose going quick when you get it bloody. Let it sit in the sun for an hour and it’s another story.

Cant help you with the sq footage. Sorry.

interesting that your layout doesn’t include the long skinny piece on the swim step, between the outboards. That said, it’s worth considering NOT putting it on the swim step. Ours has come up repeatedly in that area and we just spent $800 having those three pieces replaced. Went with a single piece on the entire step this time.

We won't be able to tell you the square footage from that picture. You'd have to go and actually measure your floor to get an idea.

In the end, it doesn't really matter - compare the price vs quality of each style vs what you like. Square footage doesn't factor into this equation. Besides, they may measure differently - one may be an exact measurement while the other might be based on total material (including scrap) used.

According to Grady, the cockpit is 74 sq ft, so 100 is likely close
