I have a 2005 Release (center console). The transom has a fishbox and next to this fishbox is a smaller compartment with an insert for storage. The issue is that the hatch on this smaller compartment does not have a gas shock or spring to prevent it from swinging all the way open. When it does fully open 180 degrees and the engines are tilted up it hits the engine. I would like to prevent future dings in the cowling. Has anyone figured out how to put in a strut or spring and still allow the insert to be removed?
