2007 330 express repower considering 300 Suzuki

I am re-powering a 330 express that has twin Yamaha 250s to 300hp and considering the Suzuki engines , I have obtained a few quotes and it’s at least $15,000 more for Yamaha or Mercury engines. I do not think it’s worth 15,000 price difference.... thoughts?

As long as you have solid dealer support, I would not hesitate to go with the new Suzuki motors.

I’ve been in the marine industry for 42 years. I ran a large Johnson dealership in the 80’s. The Yamahas are fine motors other than the 350’s. I find the Suzuki every bit their equal.
We bought our first Suzuki in 2013 based on recommendations from other industry guys. We just bought our 4th and 5th Suzuki’s. They have numerous advantages like a timing chain rather then a belt. They have 2 reduction gears. One at the top and one at the bottom of the drive shaft. That allows them to swing a larger prop for a better hole shot. It also moves the power head 4” forward for better weight distribution.
Unfortunately the outboard division was tied to the car division when it went under so it slowed the progress of their expansion in marine. That’s all behind them now and they are growing very fast.
If you notice. Most of the Sea Tow boats have Suzuki’s. The only weak point is the dealer network which is growing. All the Sea Pro Boat Dealers are Suzuki. That’s helped a bunch. The other one is prop selection. But Power Tech Props is taking care of that with fantastic 3 and 4 blade props.
You have 6 year warranty too. My FL salesman has twin 2015 DF150’s and loves them. My son had a Suzuki. Bought a boat with a 200 Yamaha and is trading it in on a Suzuki this winter.

I have been watching the zuki's also and really like them. Glad to hear they are doing well. Only concern I have so far is the weight. They seem to be much heavier than the new Merc's in case that might be a factor on the repower. If the weight is no issue, then is a no brainer.

For me, I would need 200's and Suzuki is Inline 4 whereas the Merc is V6 with a lot more displacement, so will have better torque for my needs. I wish Suzuki made a V6 200 though.

I don’t see 40lbs making much of a difference. At least not on a 330 Express. The power head being 4”’s further forward will offset some of that. The wet bath timing chain is such a big advantage over the belt. It’s worth the extra weight. No expensive adjustments. I also prefer the Suzuki backbone system over the Yamaha Command Link. I’ve rigged 3 Suzuki’s and 1 Yamaha in the last 6 months. Zuki is easier.

Another thing to note about weight. Yamaha is reported as dry weight. ie no fluids and prop. Suzuki reports its weight with fluids and prop included.

That’s a lot of horse power for that old of a boat that’s rated for 500hp. My insurance would not cover it. The transoms were not heavily braced inside until later models to accommodate the Yamaha 350 V8’s. I hope your buddy added some strength somehow. It’s tough to do with the water tank back there.

It’s also worth looking at what you gain per $1000 that you spend. This is pretty incredible if you look below. That putts my safe range at 400 miles! I just got 4 blade Power Tech 16x16 props that I will try this weekend. The below was with 3 blade 15.75x15 Solas. They hit the rev limiter and would blow out if I accelerated to quickly. I’ll post results on Sunday. This is with 2016 DF250 Suzuki fly by wire motors.

if you have a good dealer that services the Suzuki's near you then go for it. I just re powered my my 07 33 with yamaha 300's and the difference is amazing. I wanted to go with the suzuki 350's but the hull was not updated till 08 to allow the 350's. I called Grady to see if they would certify it as the zuk 350's are much lighter than the Yamaha 350's but they would not. I was able to get a very good deal on the yamaha so I went with them it was about the same price.
You will see a great improvement in performance and range whatever you go with.
