We bought a boat with twin 2007 Yamaha F150's with 560 hours. I was not too concerned with the corrosion since the 150's didn't seem effected. When going over the motors better we noticed a lot of exhaust buildup on the lower cowling. We pulled the lower unit to find corrosion inside. I was not able to get a good photo, but the very top I can see a hole, I am worried the hole is in the powerhead but I cannot tell for sure. I was hoping it needs a new exhaust guide, but it looks like that is not the only problem. We bought the boat knowing it needed work, so even if I need a powerhead we are still ok, but obviously would rather not replace a power head on an engine that seems to run well otherwise.

Does anyone have experience with this or photos if the bottom of a F150 powerhead? I tried searching but was not able to find anything specific

I also posted on THT but hoping someone here has knowledge on this

Thanks

Andrew

I hate to say this, but that looks like the 225HP issue on the 2005 models.
I also have twin 150s on my 1999 islander, there are 2017 and I will be watching them. You need to get your engines checked out

Also, I notice your engines are low, does that work well for you? I have mine mounted all the way up and so far its working well, but I have not tried the height that yours are at. These stepped hulls are tricky

We just bought the boat the end of this season, so not sure on engine mounting. We paid a fair enough price where the money we need to put into them I think we will not be upside-down in the package, but it still hurts. I just scoped the other motor and it looks like there is a hole there too. I dropped one powerhead off at a welding shop and they were afraid to touch it, but I explained the powerhead is junk either way, so if they can patch it and I can get another year or two that would be great. That threaded material is a head bolt I think that is eaten around. Below are a few photos of the powerhead removed, which was a surprising easy process.

It looks like 2 powerheads are in our future, but it would be nice to space them a year apart if possible

I had a 2005 F150 that had extensive corrosion in exhaust manifold and HEAD. I had to re-power this season. Got 15 seasons of good service and then total failure.

Where was the corrosion on the head? If the welding shop can't do the repair we are looking at 2 new Powerheads.

My dealer told me the repair on heads and exhaust path were beyond reasonable repair. I bought a new motor.
