Mine has a mode that does exactly what you describe. Have you toughed the switch on the light? Did it just start doing that now? was it operating as you wanted it before? Can you operate the spreader lights from this light?

That fixture has a 'courtesy' mode which is a red light. You probably have a bad switch in the fixture. Maybe the switch can be cleared up but maybe you need a new fixture. There is a newer version that has LED lamps.
Try flipping the switch back and firth a few times to see if that helps ( it probably won't)

Have you toughed the switch on the light? Yes, touching the button makes it stop temporarily
Did it just start doing that now? Yes, it was working fine on Sunday.
was it operating as you wanted it before? Yes
Can you operate the spreader lights from this light? Yes, there are two touch buttons on the light, one for the dome light and one for the spreader

I think this light is LED. Here is a short video of the problem:

Sounds like the problem is in the switch in the light housing. I haven't had the light apart so I don't know if it is serviceable . More than likely you need a replacement .
I have the same fitting on my 228 as well so far no problems.
