2021 Freedom 215 fuel neck

Does anyone know if there is a screen in the filler neck of a new 2021 or around 2021 vintage? I dropped a top from a cap in there and wondering if it is a disaster or not. Any info would be greatly appreciated .

Probably no screen on the inlet side, maybe a cross bar at some point to stop siphoning. Did you loose a cap or the seal that is in the cap on on the bottle neck?
You would be surprised ( or not) at how many times I hear about the cap seals being lost in the tank. I have yet to hear about a breakdown due to one of those seals falling into the tank. If you lost a cap, they is a chance that fuel flow when gassing up might be affected but for now, don't worry

It was the stupid cap seal. I figure if i have any issues fueling i can snake a piece of wire down and puncture it. An 18 gauge copper building wire should do it .

There wouldn't be one in the filler tube or tank elbow. There "may" be one on the bottom of the pickup tube. However, that means the cap seal could possibly get sucked against the pickup tube... IF the seal doesn't float. My guess is it floats - try a similar cap seal in some gas and see what it does.

Hello Dennis, Thanks for the reply. I just came in from the garage. Yes the cap seal floats in gas. Going to leave it in for a couple of days to see if it deteriorates and sinks. Thanks again!

I am curious how you would know if the cap deteriorated and sank.

Going to leave the one in my garage in the cup filled with gas stir it up every now and then , See if it sinks.

I did the same thing this past weekend. When opening Yamaha fuel additive to pour into fuel filler, the cardboard disc inside the plastic cap fell into filler. Not sure the fuel line is large enough for the disk to be sucked up into it, but if so, hoping it might drop into water separator.

The cap would probably make into the tank but would not get sucked into the engine fuel line for several reasons but basically it wont fit. I doubt that the gas will dissolve the seal but who knows

Mine was like a styrofoam coated seal. like most you see in caps. I have another I took out and have it sitting a bottle of gas to see if it sinks. So far it's still floating . A good thing!!

Probably better than sinking. Like I said, I don't see many if any cases of blocking the fuel.
This cap in the tank happens many times especially to boaters with less experience (who have not already lost a cap seal in the fill)
In many cases, the captain doesn't even realize that the seal fell off.

On my boat I use a measuring 'cup' that I fill with the correct amount of addiditve based on the gas I added and then use that cup to pour into the fill. If a cap were to fall off, I will see it in the cup first.

Hey all . Here is an update on those plastic coated styrofoam coated seals in the cap that fell into my tank. Haven’t had any issues yet. But the one in the bottle of gas on my work bench did sink after about two weeks sitting in the gas. Also spoke to Grady tech rep , he didn‘t think it would cause a shutdown . Said as someone else mentioned keep an eye on the bulb for any signs of collapse.

Good info. Keep an eye on that styrofoam - I wonder if the gas is slowly breaking it down. If so, it would have eaten through the outer layer, exposing the air pockets and allowing it to sink. That's just a guess, though. I do know that gas will eat "true" styrofoam - just not sure exactly what that cap seal is made of.
