2024 Marlin Trim Tabs

What's up with tabs on the Marlin? Some ad pics are showing them in a pocket while others show them mounted to the transom.

I don't exactly know... but did the hull design change over the years? Are you looking at different model years?

Every marlin I have looked at has had the tabs flush to the transom and the actuator in a recessed pocket. Most of these boats were 2000 models on. Maybe the older ones had them on the transom?

All boats were listed as 2024's and still on the dealer's lots.

The pre 98' hulls had them in a pocket forward of the transom at the front of the step. Every other later model I've seen has been as described above.

That is odd. I thought GW typically hid tabs under the hull to avoid having under water protrusions. Looks like they changed at some point in 24. Making room or cutting cost?

Mine are in pockets. I think they all have been for many years.

looks like the F350s have them off the transom. My guess is they work better there. Another reason to go with the F300.

Could it be that GW use the same hull for another model (Freedom or Canyon) and just install another Deck on same hull?

To make two hull moulds for one model with the only difference of the trim tab pockets sounds a bit extreme to me.

Good call. Does the same Canyon or Freedom 30' have exposed tabs?
Possibly the case, but I would be surprised that fiberglass molds could be that precise to allow interchangeability between caps.

Here's one for the conspiracy crowd: New f350s are so light that there was a need to change the boats CG for better handling so they went to a different hull mold that moved weight aft.?

Looks like the 306 has some with and without pockets too for 2024, but 2025s have no pockets. It looks like the contour at the transom is slightly different too:

I have pockets, but is a 2011 model.
I would guess GW used the hull of another model for whatever reason.

Yep!
external mounted trim tabs are in a dumb position for two reasons:

• swim ladder may hit the trim tab
• a swimmer may stand on the tab by mistake or if he slips
• for fighting a big fish i would like to have the transom as clean as possible and external trim tabs add more obstructions than the outboards who can tilted up

Good point, however that would be a decision a bit questionable as not all would like to have Interceptors and also not paying the higher price for SK Ride over the ZipWakes, Humphree, the Greek HydroTab.
However, i wonder why the transom mounted trim tabs where installed under the ladder and not directly a interceptor style trim system what would had made much more sense that two trim tabs on that "dumb" position.

GW uses the hulls on several models. My guess is the motor configurations are a bit varied for the single hull and they have to move them around to support. Good thing to keep in mind when time to repower.
