I see were someone mentioned that the grady 208 was heaver this year and some mentioned that the factory put more weight in the front to offset the heaver four stroke,if so should my repowered 1997 208 have weight add in the bow like the newer models.seems that the rear sea cocks are just at water level and when 2-3 people astand in the back its letting water in. :hmm

Thats a good question and i wish I could offer more input other than I repowered my 1996 and don't have that problem. I repowered with a 200 Optimax. What did you put on your boat?

That motor is a good 100 pounds or more heavier than the original 2 stroke. In addition, the extra weight is off the transom and is equivalent to adding a decent sized passenger in the stern. Now add a few folks to the boat and I guarantee your scuppers will be below water on a 208. Some water intrusion is inevitable but it can be lessened by making sure the rubber flabs are pliable, seat correctly at rest and are clear of debris. It doesn't take muck to wedge the flap open.

I was wondering the weight seems to be higher in the new specs and i did see apost were the poster mentioned that the newer 208 were a couple hundred lbs more.in this post the person mentioned that the boat was weighted in the bow to compensate for the added weight from the 4 stroke.

GW added some ballast forward to help offset the additional weight of the 4 stroke. It also helps keep the scuppers out of the water.

Hi guys,

I currently have a 1995 Tournament 192 that I really like with a '95 Johnson 200 2 stroke.

I did have a bunch of water come in the scuppers when my (not light) son sat in the back. I'm sure the scuppers are original. Need to find where to buy new ones. Put in forward gear and cleared it. I may put a 150 4 stroke on it later.

I asked several dealers about how they accounted for the extra weight of the Yammy 150 or 200 and knew the newer Gradys weighed more in the 192 and the 208 series.

A dealer in Charleston, South Carolina and one in Florida had two different answers. One said they moved the gas tank forward slightly to make the center of gravity more forward (makes sense to me..), and the other said Grady added weight forward. I couldn't get an answer whether this was in thicker glass or maybe some of the top-side components.

For example the '94 brochure shows the 192 @ 2075 lbs w/o engine and the same thru to 2003 when they stopped producing the 192.
Now the new ones are 2475 lbs for the 192.

That's a Huge 400 lbs increase for the same size boat!
For comparison the 208 went from 2650 (2006) to 2900 lbs in 2008 = 250 lbs increase....
