Could someone tell what the sea handling differences are between the 226 and 228? I've never had a boat with a bracket. I'm looking to buy one or the other.

Thanks,

Dave

I recently tested both boats and ended up deciding on a 226.

The major difference I found was that the 226 will stay on plane at a lower speed than the 228. This makes for a softer, drier, but slower ride when the seas get snotty.

The rear cockpit layout of the 228 is nicer. Every boat has trade offs.

I have the 228 and did not sea trial a 226. I love the open cockpit of the 228 along with the full stern. I guess you have to figure out what you are going to do with the boat and where you are going to run her. I run both lakes here and the ocean and I can tell you when it comes to water sports, maybe the 226 would have been a better choice given the lower planing speed characteristics. However, I like how the 228 handles in the sea. I went from a 192 to a 228 and the bracket issue has never really been an issue for me.
