Interested in hearing 228 repower results. I have a 2006 228g with yam 225 four stroke that I will keep forever but I would like to hear other people's results after repower as far as fuel burn and overall performance. I currently am running with hardtop, curtains down, 40 gallon west coast bait tank, main fuel tank 1/2 full and auxiliary fuel tank topped off spinning a 15p 4 blade PT ofs4 and I average 1.75 knautical mpg(2 mpg) no matter how much fuel or if the bait tank is full. I've heard of some repower to a Zuke df250ap getting close to 3 and yam 250 getting 2.5. What is a realistic expectation?

My 2020 Yamaha 250 has averaged 2.2mpg over 2700 miles. Yeah, it's possible to get better but it rarely happens on the Pacific, it tends to be choppy out there and that hurts the mpg.

I think that the 250 hp outboard is going to be a "better" fit for the 228 Seafarer as opposed to a 225 hp outboard, which just seems to be slightly underpowered in the mid range. Here's the performance bulletin from GW on my vintage of boat with a Yamaha F225 on it, though obviously those numbers are probably going to be a bit "generous". It does appear that they used a different prop than what you're running though, that and I'm thinking the 40 gallon bait tank as well as a full main and partially full aux tank also aren't going to help things.
