228 transom rod holders?

I've got a modern 228 and I'm wondering if it is possible to add rod holders in the transom. Anyone done that?

Apologies if I've asked this before, I've thought about asking, looked and couldn't find where I did. I'm becoming a boomer. When you are 25 and open the fridge and ask "what am I doing here" it is an existential question, when you are my age and you do the same, you are trying to remember why you went to the fridge

Yes, it is possible to add them on each side of the live well, but behind the live well you do not have the depth for a standard rod holder. I am referring to zero degree rodholders.
I will do something similar to what I did on my tournament 22. Last time I was at the coast I measured, and the Lee rod holders were about an inch too long, and hit the top of the live well under the transom. This is what it looked like under there on a 2000 Seafarer. The black connection is the washdown.

I have one center, but it's probably not the style you are asking about. I fish a 5 rod spread for catfish so this style works for me.

I don’t know if it was, but it’s always been one of my favorites.

My boat has burnewiin on it and you can install their mounts, I have 2 of their mounts on the stern. Installation was a pain, but I have them there if I need.

I had to look those up, seems like you could cut a hole in the transom and screw the mounts to the transom? Does that not work, do you need
to get under there and bolt them down?

What about mounting something like this, I'd put it centered on the transom:

My goal is more rod storage where they aren't in your way. The holders on the hardtop posts are nice but they dangle lures in your way, make it hard to walk around the boat. The other option is on the hard top but that works for me, being 6'2", but not for my kids or other shorter people.

I stuck one on the back side of my transom but that doesn't work for rods with reels when I want to tilt the engine forward.

LD, are you saying mount that Amarine unit on top of the transom? I think that it would often get in the way. If you have rods on the front of the live well, on top of the transom, and on the back of the transom, that is quite a maze to keep untangled, and out of the way fishing.
Why not zero degree rod holders in the transom cap? If mostly for storage, and not trolling, I don't think that you will need to do any heavy duty backing. I am pretty sure that you will find 5/8 to 3/4 plywood in there as a core to screw into, if you don't thru bolt. Call the factory to be sure, or remove the transom shower fixture to see what's there. That's what I will do before drilling a 2" hole.
That would also give you some other options, like a cleaning/bait table. I am planning to put at least 4 there. Look at this thread, I think it was post 22, to see what you might find in the transom for coring.

Yeah, you're right. A couple of zero degree holders is probably the ticket. Or just leave the spare stuff in the cuddy cabin. I really only need 2 rods plus a descender and a net and I've got enough for that. The hoarder in me likes it when the boat looks like a pin cushion like here:

Hardtop rocket launcher adds to your pin cushion effect. You can have extra rods outside and up out of the way instead of dealing with them back on the transom area.

I installed two Lee HD flush mount 90 degree holders in mine, right above where the back seat transitions to the bait well. Overall I'm pleased with it but the holders are a bit too long so the cushions are really tight now. When I was doing the install I seriously considered getting rid of the fresh water spigot and drilling the other holder opposite but the Lee holders were too long to go there.
That spigot isn't powerful enough so eventually I'll probably connect my FW tank to a regular wash down pump or put a Y in the saltwater line but that's another story...

That looks great, I'm also wondering what year your boat is. And wondering if you were able to do that 100% from the top or did you have to
go in from underneath?

Those look great for a net and a gaff. Close enough to be handy, far enough to be out of the way.

The boat is a 2005 and there's plywood at least an inch thick sandwiched in glass. I'd have no concerns trolling 50's for tuna from that position. I didn't use a baking plate but I was able to get washers on them so they're really solid. Getting to the inner most bolt was tricky.
