I bought this boat at the end of the last season knowing it would need some work in order to get it to a point where I could be "proud of it". It was very solid and seaworthy, but I really wanted to work on the cosmetics of it and make it as factory fresh as I could. The one real area of concern was the fuel tank. Being that the boat is a 1984, I knew I was on borrowed time with it. I called GW and they referred me to Florida Marine Tanks since I guess this was the OEM supplier. I ordered that up in January and it arrived mid February. I did as much research as I could on here and other places and got a lot of very valuable help. It was a relatively simple job, although I wish I had some extra hands helping me with the fuel/vent lines, but it wasn't awful.
Here is a list of what I did:
Fuel tank
all new fuel lines
changed the deck color over to white with an epoxy paint
changed out the stereo to a Fusion IP-700
Added four 7 inch JL's (you can see the old cutouts from the shitty west marine speakers. I had to go with 7inch speakers to fill the old holes)
Added a 12 inch powered Bazooka sub
Reworked the teak
Pulled the old decals off and redid them (my wife did most of the work).
Changed the registration to her DOB and Initials (she liked that).
worked like a madman on the bring the gelcoat back to life. It had zero reflectivity and I was able to get a really nice clear reflection in it after hours of labor.
Redid almost all wiring on the boat
new stern light
new horn
new bottom paint
Sold the seats and replaced with new
sold the old cooler seat and replaced with deck chairs
Engine work (t-stats, fuel pumps, cleaned carbs, etc)
changed all deck plates over to white.
tons of other little things that I'm sure I am missing.
I am pretty happy with it overall and already have some stuff in mind for next year. For now though, we hope to enjoy it all summer/fall.
