My gas shock that keeps the drop transom on the 265 express has seized and I need to replace it. Does anyone know the pressure ratings on this part? I haven't checked with my local GW dealer since they are closed but wanted to see if anyone has replaced this via other sources.

Thanks!

If it is a gas shock, it most likely has a part number on it and often the last 2 digits or the 3 and 4th last digits will be the force Compressed length may also be critical, so measure yours and check the specs on any non OEM replacements. I found that out the hard way of course. In my case the replacement struts were 1/4 inch longer compressed and the lid wouldn't close:(

following..

do you have a picture? interested in how that works.

btw, I would not put much trust in the spring loaded ball catches. I use bungees to ss eye hooks as a backup.

If you back down hard against waves you will get wet shoes, ankles, shins....

I was looking at the boat and what do you know?....it has a gas shock on the tailgate!
Unfortunately, the part # does not appear on their website. Looks like they changed # formats....

Crossed the numbers and found this. Measure the existing shock and order accordingly. Contact Maxum Hardware,,, that's where I bought mine from.

Yep, so the numbering system is new but I'm guessing that the 100 in 7100 is the force. Its definitely the 750 model with 6" stroke. Mine is working so I don't need to research it.

Funny, I've had the boat 3 years and never paid any attention to that part. I paid more attention to the ball/spring latches that don't work... I use bungees for extra holding power.

So I was out there and took it off...wow! without that thing the tailgate drops like a very heavy rock. You don't realize how really heavy that tailgate is...
Thats a project coming up...there is a cracked front corner and the back has delaminated in one corner.

This shock is a 15” length shock with 6” travel. 100lbs pressure is the one to use.

Looks like I need a new one for the 265 transom. The part number stamped on it is 315\668\2172 unless that is a phone number and GW 10-49 or 149. I’ll call tomorrow and update this thread in case it helps someone in the future.

the 315...is a phone number. You need an Ameritool 750-6 series. Look at earlier posts.

You sure you need one? test with & without it connected. The shock makes the tailgate seem lighter but it will still drop like a rock if the Ball/spring latches are shot.
If it won't stay up, your problem is probably the ball/spring latches.

I just got new ball spring latches Too. The shock can be pushed by hand and it has water in it. That door weighs a ton! Thanks for the part number! this boat is a money pit

The 100lb gas spring just got here. What a difference! I can lift it with one finger now. Gotta install the latches but I might not need them. I’ll see. Moving on….

They make great struts. They really hold up well in a tough environment.
