Hi all
Thinking about a repower. Currently have 2001 265 w/twin. 200 yami swII. Have read 4 strokes are a little heavy for the transom? and, concerned about yami 225’s exhaust issues. will repower with used not new. looked at yami hpdi 300’s, but open to other suggestions of those who have repowered with this GW model. I like to get where i am going faster than not…

Selling ox66s and buying an hpdi 300 is like trading an old bulletproof Cummins diesel for a Ford 6.0 dumpster fire. I'd skip that move.
Used 4 cylinder 200s are a good way to go, but good luck finding some worth owning. A pair of well maintained optimaxs could be a good option, but there are risks.

stay away from the 300 hpdi. There is/are a couple of recent posts about repowering 265's.

I have a 2000, 265 and repowered with (2) Suzuki 200 4 stroke's. Top end is comfortably 36mph, no transom or balance issues or with exhaust/noise. Over 250 hours and no problems at all.

In terms of pricing... I'd think twin Suzuki 200's. Strictly in terms of weight and nothing else, I'd say the Mercury 200 FourStroke series motors which are 475 lbs a piece. Of which comparatively, your current Yamaha 200 SWII motors are around 453 lbs a piece, per Google. The Suzuki's are around 529 lbs a piece, though I can't imagine the extra weight would make that much of a difference, especially since a few forum members have them and have had good luck with them on their boats.

I don't know how the weight and size of the 265 compares to the Islander 270, but several people on this forum repowered their Islanders with twin 150s and were happy with the results.
They repowered their Islanders with or Express's with 150's? My neighbor has a 2005 GW 270 Islander and for some reason, the brochure has a different dry weight only for the 2005 model year at 5,600 lbs. Compared to the previous 2004 model year at only 4,660 lbs, which seems very odd that they increased the weight of the boat by 1k lbs for a year, and then discontinued the model altogether the next year in 2006. Either way, the 265 Express seems to have a pretty consistent weight of 5,390 lbs. That being said, my neighbor's GW 270 Islander has twin F150's on it and will it imo is marginal for power and will definitely work, I'd think the better choice would be twin 200's. Maximum horsepower for the GW 270 Islander is 500 hp, which with twin 150's you'd be leaving 200 hp on the table. It's a pretty big, heavy boat though and I'd want a bit more power than just the 300, though for my particular fishing needs I don't need a boat of that size anyway. I'm perfectly content with my 228 Seafarer as it gets about twice as good of fuel economy comparatively.
