Still playing with this new to me boat and Im already thinking about the repower option? I dont have 40grand to spend on the new Digital 250s, look nice, but too costly, I love the performance report of the F225s but dont like the idea of having to raise the scuppers and really patch the boat around a new set of motors it wasnt designed for.

Love the power of the X250s, but I miss the quite and smooth running of my F250 (previous boat). Im just curious about other inputs, suggestions, ideas etc of repowering a 2001 265, I love the boat, its in good shape, needs an electronics upgrade too, but Id rather get her running really well before venturing into it further.

Chances of a sooner than later deployment are around the corner anyway, so Im thinking this boat might just miss all the fishing chances I had hoped for anyway!!!

Talk to Jekyl. He put F225's on his 2000 (Ithink) 265. I don't think he raised his scuppers. You could always buy a set of used F225's or F250's then the cash outlay is minimized.

Take a look at 200hp HPDIs, while not as quiet as a four stroke they are better than the old 2 strokes. They will not cause a scupper issue and deliver the same (or better) fuel economy as a four stroke when under way.

The HPDI option seems like a good one, although I think I may end up second guessing myself and im settling in the future. Cant get the HPDI's new anymore can you?

The other issue with going to 4S is the engine spacing is different because they're wider, so you'll have to plug and re-drill the transom. Jekyl has a post about what he did you should be able to find and I'm sure he'll answer questions too

According to the Yamaha website the HPDI is still available. I beleive this is the longest unchaged run for a high power yamaha outboard. That in itself should speak to the quality of the design.

You could consider the Honda 225 4 strokes, they are narrower than the Yamahas and mount on the 26in on center holes (like the Yamaha 2 strokes), no modification necessary.

The new Yami's are 565# (the Hondas are 600#), would the extra 120 pounds put you over the edge? The 200 Verados are 500 but the 225's are over 600. Zukes fit the same spacing or even 225 Optis. Spacing them out a little isn't going to hurt anything and may make close quarter maneuvering easier (as long as the steering linkage will still fit).

All of those motors (even the new Digital 250s) I think would require scupper changes, I'll have to look into the HPDI option further, Im assuming I could even use my same gauges (digital) and shifting binnicle (704).

I could go for that Verado power steering though, that set up drives AWESOME!!!

Just a question, if you go with 2 strokes don't you need to add the weight for the oil tanks, and oil, to the total weight added to the rear of the boat?

Well, I was kinda wondering the same thing, just in the opposite direction, since I already have OX250's with the 4.6gal oil tanks that are mounted about 3feet forward of the transom, outboard of port/stbd stringers, I was thinking that LOSS of weight could be used in calculating the added weight of the 4bangers. But since its not hanging right on the transom as the motors are, the LCG (longitudinal center of gravity) is probably not as much of an impact as the direct weight hanging on the transom of the boat, Im sure it would help, but cant imagen it being a HUGE difference as it would on the motor brackets.

All in all, Id rather have the newer 250s, but probably gonna have to wait a few years before that can take place, seems to me buying used lower cost 4strokes would just equal repower again a few years down the road. Plus waiting will add operating hours and info about those newer motors and maybe some sweet used deals with warranty in a year or so.
