Good morning. I am taking delivery of a 272 Sailfish in the next few days and I am looking at installing a Simrad 3G radome. My question; is there room for the dome installation without relocating the anchor light? Do I need to use an elevated radar mount with anchor light relocation kit?

Thanks! I am getting excited to join all of the other Grady owners.

Concur with roberth.

Flush mounting is fine. You will need a taller mount for the all-around light, and this is a great time to upgrade to LED.

I strongly recommend LED for all navigation lights, and Attwood makes 2nm lights that are perfect replacements for the split bow lights.

As I had posted before, the lowering was very important. Even now, I still have to be very careful and plan my routes. When I come up to some overhanging branches. I have to come nearly to a stop and crawl through so I don't damage the radome. I cover it with a canvas outboard cover to protect from scratches and that works very well.

The Grady Hardtop actually curves downward on forward and sides so if you flush mount, keep in mind the angle you want to get. I did not go to full forward position as it would have too much angle. A few inches back put it just right so that when you are on the water, it is nearly level but with a very slight degree forward to consider running attitude.

The LED's are absolutely great. I did get the Attwood's mentioned for Red/Green nav and never worry on draining battery. I also switched out the deck flood lights with LED which replaced the halogens that pulled some serious juice!

The anchor light was hard to find as I wanted the fold down model and specific length. It was necessary to fold it down so it did not get broken off on the branches.

Post some pics. Sounds like a nice rig!

I just mounted my used electronics package last week. It is tipped down, but I wanted to forward so I could clear the all around light, keep the drilled hole outside the enclosure, and to allow the wire to come right into the electronic box. I figure once the boat is int he water I can shim it up if needed once I see how it sits in the water. Also I had to buy a 2' mast for my GPS antenna, from what I read here and elsewhere the radar can burn out the antenna and cause the GPS to loose it position at times.

Never a problem with 13'-6" maximum road clearance on a hydraulic trailer. Keep in mind that higher is better with domes as well as open array. Your installation manual will clearly show unobstructed beam angle for a 3G dome. These radar units are capable of displaying objects directly to Port or Starboard as well as stern but ONLY with a unobstructed beam. Keep this in mind. Yes, mounts as well as fold-down units are expensive but clearly have a better line of site than a direct hardtop mount. We can also talk distance to horizon but that is splitting hairs with 3 and 4G units.

I did a test to the side and it is amazing. WithIn a short distance I can see markers to the side, but forward is most critical as not to hit something with restricted visibility.
Those that don't have to trailer can likely benefit, but I don't see how it can get much better than what these new units can do. I am extremely happy with flush mount. :D

Tom T, can you tell me the brand and style of the light and GPS pole you have? Looks sexy, and I'd like to move both above the radome also.

It is a Seaview mount with LED light and GPS mount. The tube swings down for clearance via 4 stainless cap screws.
