In a nut shell can someone please explain the differences between a 272 and a 282. Looked at the specs and the only difference seemed to be the fuel capacity. Thanks.

The only diffence I could see is the Hardtop height,, fuel and probably a reinforced stern for HP
I believe that the 282 replaced the 272 in the 2002 production year. I find it hard to believe that adding 50 gallons to the fuel storage and changing a couple of windows warranted a model change. I just want to see if I'm missing something major before I purchase.
The change was before '02, as mine is an '01 282. Grady did not change the hull one bit, whatsoever from teh later 272's to the 282's, the just renamed it because it was a 28 foot boat. There were changes to the 272 such as extending the bottom of the hull which used to end 2 feet short of the stern. I am not sure of the exact year this happened, but believe it was around 97. There has been much discussion on here about this if you check the archives. Grady customer service is awesome and could answer any questions you have. Mine is for sale if you don't find the 272 you want...george

Like every model, GW redesigns every few years based on customer feedback. The change from 272 to 282 does not represent any changes in the hull. The Sailfish went from a 25 to a 27 to 28 foot boat based on running surface. Once the hull became 28' it was renamed the 282 during a year (around 2000-2002) when it was redesigned.
The only real hull changes were when the bracket became integrated (around 93-94) and then the hull was extended to include the bracket (1998).

The 1997 and up hull is the same, the windows changed, and later the interior (countertops) and dash. They went from the 272 to 282 designation because the bow pulpit became standard, not an option.
I have a 1995 272. There is a difference in the hull from my 272 and the 282 hulls that I have seen is that my 272 has a step up in the stern that is about 2 foot long with the trim tabs coming off the lower part of the step rather than at the stern. I beleave that the 282 with the full running bottom came as a result of the added flotation needed in the stern to handle the extra weight of the 4 stroke engines that GW started to install.
MegaB - when the integrated euro transom came out, the running surface was the same as Grady Drive years, prior, when it was called a 25 ft., with or w/o the optional pulpit.

Yep. It went from 252 to 272 around 94-95. The hull was extended the year after mine (98). It was renamed the 282 around 2000-2001 when it was redesigned with round windows, new hardtop, etc.
