280 Marlin speed and fuel economy with 4 strokes

Got the props on but no chance to run, bad weather. Would have had to pull props anyway as the day before I got an outrigger line in the port motor/prop. Went swimming offshore with the Portuguese man of war, which I fear more than the spinner sharks and thought I got it all. At the dock I could see a bit of line coming out the prop hub. It did get behind the face of the shaft that mates with the back of the prop, but was all wrapped in a groove on the shaft which almost looked like it was there to catch line. Looking at the situation I could not see how line could damage any seals as all parts seemed to have very tight tolerances and there was nowhere except the groove for the line to go.
 
Hopefully that is true but you can't be 100% sure without removing the prop. Even then, the most accurate test ( usually done at seasonal layup or service) is to do a pressure/vacuum LU test
