282 Documentation?

Mine is documented, I had it done when I did the initial purchase and renew annually.

Forgive me for this silly question, but what does having it documented mean?

Registering it with the coast guard

There are no silly questions when it comes to boating

Just got a notice saying my boat didn’t meet the tonnage requirements
I didn't attempt; 282 Sailfish dry weight is only 5,800 lbs, motors prolly add another 1,900 lbs, so below the required 5 net tons...

When I got my 282 it was already documented and I just transferred it to me. The gross and net tonnage that is listed on my documentation is listed as 8K. I have renewed every year since 2008 with no issues. Not sure why you were denied.

This is from the Coast Guard reguirements for documentation.

"In order to be eligible for documentation for Coast Guard registration, you must be a US citizen, and your boat must be more than five net tons. Typically, boats which are over 25 foot long are likely to meet the weight requirements"

There are services that will process a documentation for you. Did you go directly to the CG or through a service?

That’s not how the tonnage is calculated. I made a wrong measurement on total depth of boat now it’s documented
