I decided to upgrade the electronics on my 2006 282 Sailfish this spring. I went with the Simrad NSS Evo3 12" MFD, 4G Radar, and Airmar B175H 1kw Transducer (3-3/4"dia drilled hole). I am having a real hard time finding a location I'm 100% confident in for the transducer. The bilge has a nice gap between the original transducer flat and the stringer, but it looks like it may be a hard squeeze tightening the transducer nut. The original transducer pockets are too small for the 1kw unit I bought. Any pics or advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Have yet to commit to the install. I have a pro coming out this week to discuss. Last 28' Grady he did required the deck plate to be removed and reinstalled to allow solid hull access. Anyone have experience with this? I also am adding some photos of the bilge and hull for future references. I don't have those notches in my 265 so I'm a little at a loss. I'm assuming they correlate to a flat spot outside of the stringer. You can mount a 0 degree thru hull there, yes?

Is your transducer 0 tilt or 12 degree or 20 degree?

Hopefully some 282 guys chime in with what they have in place.

I'm watching this closely! I have a 99 272 which looks identicks in the bilge. My b175hw is supposed to come in tomorrow and I've been racking my brain on where to mount it. I ordered the 20 degree tilted element which was advised by Jacobson marine. I'm thinking it's going to go right below the flat spot. I just don't think there is enough room forward of it due to the bulkhead.

I have a B164 mounted in my 282. It is a 20 degree and located between the stringers on the port side. If I remember correctly, it is about in line with the aft portion of the battery tray if you were to draw a line from port to starboard.

Thanks for the response. Do you notice any interference from the water pick ups in front of it?
THanks

It is outboard of the pickups, location favors the outer stringer. In clean water, I have no issues; however, following in the wake of another boat I occasionally lose bottom.

Awesome thanks. Not sure if it's possible but a picture would be great. I'm just wanting to measure twice and cut once!

I'm still waiting to meet up with an installer. Does anyone have pictures of a 282 sailfish with the deck removed, exposing the gas tank and inner hull?

Does anyone know the exact transducer the box out was designed for?

I believe it provides a flat surface for a fairing block mounted transducer to be mounted.

I’m still struggling here. Anyone know if you can mount the thru Hull transducer behind the molded pocket? Will this cause turbulence and mess with the reading?

you ever notice nuthin is easy? and they put that notch there to make it easy!

Wish I could give you a definitive answer but you seem to think it might be a problem and I will agree it might be a problem.

We had a B175M installed in our last Sailfish 282. From memory we moved one of the thru-hulls for either livewell or washdown and installed transducer in that location.

We also had the Garmin Side-View / Down-View transducers on each transducer flat.

Managed to easily find some photos.
We also added a bow thruster which I know is rare on a Sailfish. We have since moved back to a Marlin 300 which we had before the Sailfish.

If you do as we did just make sure you do not use the centre of thru Hull hole for centre of transducer as you might end up on rounded part of keel below. Just something to check.

Finally got mine finished and seatrialed. I put it right where you were thinking between the flat spot and the stringer. It fits and works flawlessly.
