Reaching out to see if anyone has repowered a 283 with the newer I4 200's. Any efficiency data and sea conditions performance would be appreciated.
283 Release Repower Question

What year of boat do you have? Per the brochure, the weight and maximum horsepower vary slightly depending on the year of your hull, but it appears it came out in 2003, where the weight was around 5,500 lbs and had a maximum horsepower rating of 500 hp. Then the next year in 2004, it went up to a maximum horsepower rating of 600 hp but kept the same weight. Then in 2005, it jumped up to over 5,800 lbs in weight and it appears to have stayed there, still with the maximum horsepower rating of 600 hp. Of which that makes me think you might want something more like twin 250 v6's, especially if the weight/price of the outboards is negligible. Perhaps a bit of insight on the matter as to what kind of boating/fishing you do, might be beneficial. Hopefully someone will come along with some first hand experience and give their opinions on the matter.
