I have just cut a deal on a new 283 Release and hope to take delivery on it within the next week.

This is my third Grady in a row, the first 20' cuddy I kept for 14 years, the second 24 ft. cuddy I kept for 13 years and now I start 2010 with a new 283. Obviously, I must be satisfied with Grady Whites.

I looked long and hard and just didn't feel the competition could give me the value that Grady White could. After all, if you are on a winning horse, why get off.

Why the change to a Center Console after 2 cabin models for so many years?

I'm like you, I had a Seafarer for 10 years, now a Gulfstream that I plan on keeping for a long time.

Congrats..what a great way to wrap up 2009.

We had cuddy cabins on our first two Grady's because it was a good place to send young kids that needed a nap or a "time out" place. When/if we get grandchildren it will be their parents responsibility to handle diapers, naps and time outs.

Seriously, I wasn't in the market for a new boat but saw an ad in a local sportman's monthly for two 2008 Grady's that were on sale. One was the 258 which we loved but it did not have the room for fishing that we wanted. I think, if I remember, it's deck area was actually less than the 246G that we currently have because the Grady drive motor extention puts the motor outside of the transom. The other was the 283 center which allows more/easier access to the front of the boat.

This is the first center console I've ever owned so I hope I made the right decision. The cabin is good if you run into bad weather but I'm 65 now and my days of having to "push" the weather are long gone.

The only two parameters dictated by the co-captain were a potty and a windless and this boat has both.

All right, a fisherman!

With a Sailfish hull (couldn't help myself on that one!)

If you or yours get annoyed by the wind or splash, you can get a canvas guy to make you "wings" that extend out to the gunnels and ride along the gunnels back past the console, that fold back when not ruinning so you have the characteristic CC easy access to go forward. Very common for CC guys.

Just in case you miss the bridge protection of the cabin boats.

That's a good idea. I also have been told by the co-captain that we will have to get a piece of canvas made to provide shade in the back of the boat for anyone (grandchildren) that want to lay down and take a nap. She has been trying to domesticate me for 44 years so I will have "wings" made at the same time.

Come to think of it, when I inspected the boat before buying it, I think the dealer mentioned "wings" so it may already have them.
