300 Marlin transducer selection.

Was looking for input on what transducers Marlin or Express owners were running. I am currently looking at 1kw high/wide and 1kw medium thru hull. Wanted to install back on the flats if possible, with 285 versions without fairing or use the 175 versions elsewhere. Any input and pics appreciated. Thanks ,

It was years ago but I did a 1KW shoot through. The mount point is all glass so you don't have to worry about it getting the core wet.

What type of fishing/depth will you be doing? What MFD/black box do you have or are planning to get? THT has a lot of good threads with screen shots and I second asking Gil at SemperFi.

I fish the canyons for tuna etc, and eventually want to do some daytime sword fishing so down to 300 fathom or so. Wanted the high wide for trolling to see fish in the upper water column and a medium or low for deeper target separation. I am currently installing the Tzt3 unit with 1kw chirp sounder.. I trailer my Marlin some so I was trying to stay away from a 275lhw with the large fairing block. If possible I would like to go back with 2 transducers without fairings that would work on the factory flats. I will try contacting Semper as you suggested but wanted some real world input of what Marlin owners were using and where they were installed. Thanks again.

On my Marlin I have a Garmin B744V through hull that goes nicely with my 8612.

I have an Express and fish Hudson/Toms/Lindenkohl canyons. I had a B744 which is a 600w traditional 50/200khz. It was not good enough for canyons. Lost all bottom about 1100 or 1200ft. Running on an old Garmin gsd22 which I am replacing wih a gsd24. I found an old but brand new 2kw Airmar R109 online. If that don't do it, nothing will.

I had considered a B275LHW to connect to a 1kw chirp sonar. I think thats an ideal setup for tuna fishing if you don't have a 2kw sonar.

Also have a clearvu/sidevu chirp unit with a transom mount sidevu transducer. Changing that to a thruhull on the keel. You won't be able to mount a sidescan xducer on your flats because you'll block a side. I think the sidescan sonars are a must have if you fish wrecks and rockpiles and they work well as a backup down sonar.

Thanks for the info SkunkBoat, looking into Furuno version of Sidescan, etc as I do wreck fishing as well. I previously hadn't thought about that, but it might be a better set up and then I could just add a dual frequency as well . Looking into the furuno dff3d with b54 transducer and a good 1kw dual frequency. Thanks for the input.
