330 with new 300 Suzukis captivating

I put 300 zukes on my 330 express grady and would not come out of the hole without major blow out , dealer changed props from 17" pitch to 20" pitch which helped but still bad , they installed in the same holes as the original 250 yammys , they now want to lower them to the last hole , im leaning towards putting 2 new hydraulic seastar jack plates and that will help low end and top end , has any one had these problems ?

I have DF300APs on my 2003 330. I have 3x16x17 props and my engines are mounted in the last hole. These engines like to be deep.

Check my posts. I went thru this with my Suzuki 250’s on my 330 Express. 4 blade PowerTech props. All problems solved. I can punch the throttles forward and leap on plan with no cavitation. Solas and Suzuki props would not perform on my boat. They are too soft for these big heavy boats. You probably need 16x17’s. Maybe 16x18’s.

Ironic I sent you a PM without seeing this thread first - on my cape horn, I also had cavitation problems with new DF300s, I ended up switching to Enertia Eco props and the bite was incredible. No idea how they'd work on a hull like the 330, but if it was one thing I learned it was that props make a huge difference in handling, planing speed, etc.

Did you ever get your props straightened out? I helped a buddy of mine get his 35 Triton straightened out with Suzukis cavitation. He got the Power Tech 4 blade LFS props and he’s good to go like me. I can slam my throttles forward and never blow out. Getting 1.33 mpg at 29mph at 4500 rpm.C83FECA7-18C8-4F05-8848-BA52AE9F070B.jpeg

They need to be lower with all that torque. I’m surprised your blowing out with 17 pitch. We just put 300’s on our 282. Propped at 18.5 pitch and no issues. I agree that going to 4 blade may be your solution as I had a friend do that with his 300s on a 28 ft CC.

Did you ever get your props right?

If you were having trouble with the hole shot... why go up in pitch, seems odd. But I suspect those torquey zukes are giving you LIFT that previous motors didn't.
Also we'd be assuming you are trimmed all the way down prior to coming up on plane ...

I agree with those who say the torque of the Suzukis is far greater than the Yamahas. On our 31 Jersey Cape CC, we have to run larger 4-blade props to handle the motors. Unfortunately, it's a trial and error process to get the boat dialed in.

The guys at Power Tech Props got me perfect on the first try. 4 blade 16x16’s I could go 16x17’s but my fuel economy is so good at 4600 rpm where I run. I didn’t want to go up. I hit the rev limiter just barely at wide open throttle. It’s set at 6000. I’m running 28.7 mph full of fuel and water at 4600. I’m getting 1.3 mpg. I’m totally happy with those numbers. I have the AP fly by wire motors.
