360 Express Transom Issues

Hi everyone.
I have a 2008 360 Express under contract w twin 350s and “very low hours”. Looking at the transom
Photos. Should I buy or run? Appreciate the input.

How does it look from the outside? Any bulging or cracking? Look over the transom as someone throttles the boat onto plane. Does the transom flex noticably? If you have any of those happening, you very well may have an issue.

What has your surveyor said ? Spending north of 200k $$ Is not a decision I would make based on a question asked in a forum.

Seems to be a line following the aluminum cross bracing. My gut reaction is it superficial but I don't have a 360 and I'm not looking at it with my own eyes.

The outside looks fine and there is no visible flexing per the surveyor. He is still concerned about it. Thanks for the feedback

the aluminum brackets are cut. is that factory? i've not been in the bilge of a 360. good luck, ron

Looking again, it appears what you are seeing is the edge of the aluminum brace that runs through the transom. On some models the brace is fully glassed in, but it looks like that one isn't. Only guessing, but it looks like the seam between the glass and aluminum - nothing more.
Call and email Grady with photos to verify.

I'd look for other signs of damage. Any brown water stains? Does the transom flex when you bounce the engines? It could be easily fixable for $10K or less. Maybe if things work out, you knock $$ off and have it redone?

yes, but are they factory cut like that. i cannot specifically recall my 330 or the marlin, but the fact that that jumped out to me is of concern. ron

The braces look normal to me or exactly like mine. I bought a 2006 Express 360 a year ago and the transom definitely looked worse overall. I used that fact to decrease the seller’s price. Somebody is eventually going to take a beating over this transom, my advice is don’t make it you. Ours, in the end, was still solid on survey. No flexing and moisture levels were increased, but not terribly. Had to do some other work this year and upon removing engine bolts the transom did not appear wet. The bang plate was re-sealed and will address in the near future. I plan on addressing in the next year or two at most, and feel better that a reasonable amount of money to do so was reflected in the purchase price. Of course, everything could go south with costs once you get into these things. Anyone else worth their salt who looks at that boat is going to come to the some conclusion. You may want to take a look at the transom under the engines with them tilted all the way up— that is where the aluminum plate on the transom tends to corrode and let water in.
