4.2L F250's - 265 Express

Hey guys. I am looking to repower my Grady 265 with 4.2L F250's and had some questions. The boat is a 2000 and know Grady made some changes to the motor well and motor dam in 2002 (not worried about the scuppers, i'll get them raised) but wanted to see if anyone can confirm if the cowling sizes of the 3.3L and 4.2L are the same size/dimensions.

The reason I ask is I have a buddy with the same year boat with the 3.3L F250's and doesn't have a problem with trimming and or them fitting in the motor well with the dam up so wanted to see if I would have any issues with the 4.2's. I've spoke to Grady and the dealer already but looking for some real world experience.

Rob, I think it is similar in size. The 4.2 uses the same block as the 3.3. They increased the bore size and used plasma infused boron or something to line the cylinder walls. I think Yamaha would have dimensions on their site? Good luck.

I haven't yet pulled the trigger on new outboards. I am looking at over $50k fully rigged. I will get all the fiberglass work done this winter (raise scuppers & remove and glass over the aluminum cap on the transom) and plan to repower next year, depending on if my HPDI's ever let go.

Just bought a 2000 265 express. Hoping to run a season with the 225 Ox66s and scrape together enough dough to repower with inline-4 200s. Probably Suzuki but maybe Yamaha.
You are going with 250s. You have a lot more experience with the hull. Do you think it needs 250s?

I hope I can pick your brain about the 265 in the future....

Rob: For what it is worth, when I swapped out my 3.3L F250 for a 4.2L F300, my Yamaha motor cover suddenly became quite a challenge to get on the new motor due to a slight increase in girth. The block remains the same and, as said, bored out, but the routing of the air intakes, and I'm sure a few other things, has changed a bit.
