looking for my first Grady and found a 272 sailfish for sale. It has carbureted 2 strokes. Anyone have this boat or have any opinions
on overall satisfaction with this setup. I believe they are 200hp. I would also like to repower one day and have some concern about added the
additional weight of 4 strokes? Thanks

No experience with that boat -,but the older boat transoms were not designed for the 4 stroke weight nor the torque A good reliable solution is to repower with the Yamaha 200 HPDI. Great engine , quiet, fuel efficent, quit and very reliable. I have 4 strokes now but had an HPDI and I rate it as comparable on dependability . I had a 2000 HPDI and the person that has it now says it still starts up instantly in the spring and runs flawlessly -
I have a 2004 Sailfish and it is a great boat , no complaints except I wish it was a 33 foot Express!

I started looking for an explorer or journey then the islander and now the sailfish. I to hope I don't want something bigger after the purchase. I see some guys
are repowering with Suzuki 175hps and seem to like the weight to power ratio. Maybe even the Yamaha 200hp 4 strokes . I did call grady about this year sailfish and they
said they didn't see a problem with a 4 stroke repower on this boat

Hi - I have a 94 Sailfish I bought this year. Mine is repowered with 2006 E-TEC 200HO's which are ~220HP engines. I love it so far. I really like the way it is laid out. I was looking for a 98 or newer Sailfish because those models have the longer running surface but couldn't pass on the 94 with E-TECs.

The transoms aren't the greatest on these - mine was replaced by the previous owner in 2006 when the E-TECs when on at a cost of $5400. The plywood core can rot from the top down. Make sure to have that checked out thoroughly.

Good luck,
-Scott
