Thinking of re-powering my 97 208 Adventure with a Suzuki DF200.

I have a 200 HPDI now running a 17M prop.

Anybody have this setup? What prop size? Performance?
 
The zuke will need a differnt prop as they are a 4 stroke and also have a different gear ratio than Yamaha.
On a single they will always have a 16" dia vs the 15.5" dia on the Yamaha.
Zukes usually start with a 3 blade x 16 x 18.5 but it depends on the boat, weight, and they way you use the boat.

The link below has the performance data on a new (discontinued) 208 Adventure with a Yamaha F200 on it, of which I'd download a copy of it and save it somewhere on your computer as the 208 Adventure has been discontinued. And I can imagine it's only a matter of time before they take it down off their website as the boat is no longer being sold. Go to the "performance data" section, click on a single Yamaha F200, which should give you some ballpark figures on what to expect in terms of performance if you go with the Suzuki. I personally would go with the Suzuki because of the price, 5 vs 3 year warranty, customer service and so forth. Yamaha seems to be the biggest name in outboards, but they as well as Mercury also seem to be the most expensive from what I've seen, and Yamaha only comes with a standard 3 year warranty. Honda appear to be good, they have a 5 year warranty but their motors usually are always a bit heavier than the rest it seems and they're usually more expensive than Suzuki. Good luck!

I pulled the trigger and the shop will determine best prop pitch to get recommended rpm (5500-6100)

To help others considering with a similar 208, I will post my findings....

With the HPDI and a 15 1/4" 17 (M-17), cruising at 4000 RPM I went 28MPH burning 10.5 gallons an hour.
With the HPDI and a 15 1/2" 17 (SWSII SDS), cruising at 4000 RPM I went 30MPH burning 11.8 gallons an hour (over propped, 5200 max rpm)

You didn't say what the WOT revs were for the 17M prop. Assuming it was near spec, I find it hard to believe that a 1/4 inch change in diameter would make such a difference. I think the difference has more to do with the model of prop and not the dimensions. For comparisons on performance, you should document the optimal cruising speeds and revs as well as the WOT figures.
I also assume you speed numbers were form a GPS device and sea conditions were similar.
More importantly though is what are your goals? Low end pop, max speed, most fuel efficiency?
 
Once you dial it in, the motor will be a nice fit. Good luck with it as it is a great motor.
 
Went with the 16 x 20, I will report some numbers after the 2 hour break-in.....

WOT was 5400 for the 17M, looking for fuel efficiency at 30MPH
 
For those that are looking to re-power with this era boat, I am happy and recommend the Suzuki 200/97 208 Adventure.

A big shout out to Josh at Palm City Yachts delivering what was promised and more.

Loaded up with full tank, ice, 2 people, etc. there is no weight issue with scuppers. Hole shot is as good as the HPDI. I need to trim it a bit to get 5500 WOT, a little more than normal trim. Fuel economy is impressive and best at 4.2 MPG / 24 MPH / 3850 RPM / ~6.x GPH under calm conditions.

I definitely lost some top end which I don't care about but I like to cruise 30 when I can. Not exact... getting 3.7 MPG / 30 MPH / 4350 RPM / ~8.x GPH under calm conditions.

How many RPM do most people cruise at? I feel like if I keep RPM < 4000 I am not abusing it and it will last longer? No? Or, manual says not to run WOT for more than 5 minutes during break in. LOL. So is running 4350 RPM when I can abusive?

After break- in there is nothing wrong with running at 5000 for extended runs. But you get to 30mph at 4350 so you don't need to run at 5000 unless you're late for dinner.

Congrats on the DF200AP. Great motors.
