97 208 Adventure Transducers and Placement?

Looking for what transducers I would need and where to place it or them.



I live near Seattle Wa. And would be fishing, crabbing & shrimping in the Puget Sound in water depths from 12 feet to 400 feet?



I have a Simrad NSS evo3 chartplotter/fishfinder & an Simrad AP44 VRF Autopilot I plan on installing.



The transducers I have been looking at are the Airmar B175C-20-L-9N Low chrip & Airmar B175C-20-HW-9N High chirp, Wide angle thur hull transducers.



For placement I was thinking of placing one 8” each side of the keel & approximately 12” forward of the transom. Just forward of the live well pickup.

I have not checked to see what the hull angle is in that area yet.

I hope someone knows for sure if that will work. I would be concerned about turbulence from the raw water scoops.

I would want to place it froward of the raw water scoop.

I understand that but still wonder if the scoop creates turbulence forward of its location.

I would think that there would be a recommended distance to mount it in front of scoop to avoid any turbulence created by scoop. Defiantly do not want to find out I mounted it to close! LOL!!!

I talked with a local Grady White dealer yesterday and they recommend one B60 thur hull transducer on starboard side by bilge pump. I forgot to ask if a trailer with rollers would be an issue for the thur hull transducer.

Not necessary; just trying to figure out what would be the best way for me to go. What transducers did you run?

I am not sure what that means:) The bilge pump is in the center of the bilge.
If you line up the ducer with the scoops, it won't interfere with the rollers assuming your rollers don't run over the scoop. There isn't a lot of room forward of the scoop and getting to that space may be difficult. Does your hull
have an aft deck lid separate from the fuel tank lid?
Also, my 208 has two scoops, one for raw water washdown and one for livewell.

To the right and forward of bilge pump:)

I have a small round access I can see the fuel tank through.

It does have about a 1-1/2’x3’ rectangle sealed access in front of the motor well dam. I am not sure what is under it.

I only have the live well scoop but want to add a second for the wash down.

It looks like there may be enough room in front of the scoop to mount the transducer; depending on how far forward the transducer would need to be to avoid any turbulence caused by the scoop.

If you don't, that might be a good spot to install a thru-hull transducer. There probably would also be sufficient clearance for a shoot through transducer( no hull hole).

I would guess that you could mount the ducer a bit more forward too, limiting the scoop turbulence. The reason I like the shoot through or in hull is that you can test it out in various spots to an extent to see how it works.

I like that spot a lot better!!! With the hull transducer I understand you do not get water temperature? Is that an issue? PS I like the idea of more storage!

It appears I could be over duced a bit...... but all is well.

My boat used to have a thru-hull transducer installed just forward and outboard of the water intake on the starboard side, kind of where that clean spot is I marked with the arrow in your photo below. It was a very large transducer the previous owner used for rockfishing 600+ feet deep and it had a big fairing block. I think the transducer hung at least 3 or 4 inches below the hull on the outboard side. I ended up removing it because occasionally when we'd come over a swell, we'd get cavitation behind the fairing block which cast a shadow on the starboard side of the prop which in turn would cause the boat to make a hard right turn and keel over to the left as we compensated by turning the steering wheel left. We'd have to throttle back off plane and start over to get the boat to plane straight and level again.

I think now with low profile tilted element x-ducers that won't be an issue, But it's something to keep in mind if you go with the thru-hull route.

Anyone have any pictures where someone has added a hatch to this area? I Really like this idea!
Would make a clean install for the transducer too.

Here is a pic of my transom. I am little concerned about the trailer bunks being in the way if I don't load the boat just right.

I have to admit drilling a hole through the bottom of the boat makes me a little nervous!

I also relocated my primary fuel filter there from the rear port hatch, making it much easier to access while making room for my second battery the that side.
