Hi all,

I want to add a lock to the bow starboard cooler box and the bow port storage box on my GW 235. Currently, they just have regular pulldown latches. Do anyone have any ideas of adding a lockable latch to both boxes. Thanks.

Google for lockable latches and then use picture mode to see the options,
you will find many lockable latches, the question is what kind you would like.

To be honest, why? I never lock anything. I'd rather them get in clean vs breaking locks or worse. No marine lock is stopping anyone except the owner.

Yep,
a serious thief will try to break the latch and that ends mostly with broken fiberglass too while a little padlock can avoid that someone/dlip neighbour just pick something he need with no serious thief intentions.
The "marina" i was for many years had a thief problem so i simply did not let anything aboard but all lockers and console door open while others locked it and it did not lasted long and they came in the shipyard wnad we had to do some fiberglass repair jobs.

Should you go for it, check perko brand latches. You might find one similar to one you already have with a lock (same screw pattern for example).

While I don’t disagree with the limited benefit, it might be just enough of a deterrent, if you have locks but your neighbor doesn’t. Or I guess perhaps it’s incentive to the thief - thinking ‘must be something good in there if it’s locked’.

I think you place some trust in the marina (hopefully some gates and cameras), your neighbors keeping an eye out, and get solid insurance for the boat and personal articles aboard. And just not keeping the expensive toys on board.

I figure there’s always another nicer boat in the marina. Kind of like going skiing and everyone leaves gear out everywhere, and it’s never really much of an issue.
