advance 257 with F250 performance

am considering going up to an advance (from my 222 fisherman) and want to get experiences from those of you who have / had advances - either with twins or single F250's. I have the website and yamahas performance charts etc, but want to get some real world expereinces if possible. some say twins, some say they dont like the way twins ride (stern heavy etc). so, looking for real world expereinces, thanks

GW: I've got the 258 with a single F250. Same hull but in a walkaround configuration and a bit more weight.

F250 puts boat up on plane easily. Optimum cruise for me is 4000 rpm which gets me 27 mph with full fuel and I'm getting 3 mpg in calm water. Wide open is 6,000 rpm, running at 42 mph. I usually troll ballyhoo at 1200 rpm, 6 mph and burn about 1.5 gph. I have just over 800 hours on the engine and it has been perfect.

We test rode a 257 with twin 150's. Even better getting up on plane and better accelration from planing speed. However, I needed to run both engines to maintain trolling speed. You could run on one, but the rpm's are such that you actually use more gas. And the planing fuel economy is considerably less than with the F250.

The F250 is smoother (i.e, less vibration) and more quiet at all speeds.

For me, the redundancy of twins didn't outweigh the benefits of the F250.

I have a 2007 Advance 257 with T-150's. It seems that is what u get from dealer stock. I talked to several dealers and they all said to go with T-150's especially if u going offshore. I considered the single 250 but all the dealers inventory was in Twins.

I find that that with twins the boat tracks better then a single. I don't usually push it to hard. I crusie about 30 with fuel burn at about 2.6MPG with about 11 to 12 gph depending on sea conditions. I use this boat in SW Florida in the Gulf.

Officemn: I do see the part about tracking. My boat has a small list to port while accelrating to get on plane. Dealer says it is prop torque. Easy enough to balance with trim tabs. I imagine docking would be a bit easier with twins as well.

GWC3, I would look very seriously at the F350 if you are thinking about twin 150's. The F350 has much better torque, higher top end and uses less gas. Check the web site I think the boat does 2.75 MPG at 28 mpg. I have an F-350 on my new 275 and so far I love it.

From my experience last winter the F-350 was about $3,000 less then twin 150's and you get fly by wire controls & variable rate valve timing. My only reservation would be how does the engine look on the back of that boat. It is a very large animal. As for the arguments about singles vs twins you have to come to terms with that yourself. I made the decision for a single but I don't fish 80 miles off shore ether.

I had a 2003 257 with a single F225. It was a bit underpowered. I have had two 257's with twin F150. Its the way to go for sure. Better balance and ride. Two props in the water give a bitter bite when it is rough.

I have a 1999 247 with a single 300 HP Yamaha and cruise at 22/25 knots. Tracks well and gets roughly 11/12 GPH.
