Found this boat after a auction in 2017 in SC. Remotored with 200 Zuke. Nice project and never ending and that's half the fun. Pround member of the Grady Bunch.IMG_5105.JPGIMG_5103.JPGIMG_4541.JPG
Gas tank deck cover was rotted. Interesting on how GW pieced the plywood. Never could figure out why they didn't use one piece of plywood.IMG_4491.JPG

How hard was it to get the gas tank deck cover off.. mine seems to be stuck and I have been afraid to keep pulling up from the opening

Looks good Ray Man, I redid my tank hatch over the winter. Mine was wet also due to water following the screws into the plywood. I elected to do the squares as I was wondering if one piece would warp strange. Ended up I did mine with one first layer of epoxy and matching mat (1700?) with squares buttered and cured overnight with weight, then the next day I filled in between blocks and two more layers of mat. I did cut my outside squares back and around pie holes on the edges about a 1.5” with a 45 deg cut, then used a cabosil filler with the expos resin to make a paste to fill edges and around the pie holes so no screws will ever see plywood again. My tank cover is rock solid now.

Use a utility knife and cut perimeter as deep as you can. Take the access cover off and lift in various directions to work it loose. That 5200 chaulk is good stuff so work it back and fourth.

heard a good tip for the next time, lay a piece of heavy mono in the bottom crack before you silicone the tank lid leaving two ends just barely above the deck in a hidden corner. The next time pull on the mono with pliers and it should cut the caulking.

Using 3M 5200 would be a no no for a tank cover:(

GE Silicone II in Almond is a good match for my floor. Getting ready to caulk mine back in after fuel tank/hose replacement.

5200, good luck ever getting it out. Definitely not the right application for it on you deck panels.

When I pulled gas tank cover, after cutting silicone still couldn't get it to come loose. Put screw in a 1 /4 of an inch, then with piece of 2x4 (to protect floor) put hammer on, pried up on each screw and it finally popped.

Only trouble with almond is that 2 years later you need to redo it all, mine turned a nasty brown after 2 years.

The Kitchen & Bath version of the GE Silicon should hold up better as it has a mildew fighting chemical in the formula. I am not sure if GE uses the same name Kitchen & Bath these days.

That's all I've ever found. Didn't know there was anything different. Sorry I didn't specify kitchen and bath. I usually know what I'm looking for so I just buy this one.

Very nice job with that deck plate. I like the built in support pieces.

one trick is not to over do it with the caulk. Embed a piece of fishing line with a pull loop in a spot out of the way. Then pull straight up and rip the silicone.
