Adventure 208 Freshwater Tank Location

The sale went through with my 2020 Adventure 208, and it should be on a ship to Hawaii next week, cheeehooo!

It does not have a freshwater washdown. I was thinking about having a pocket transducer installed in that location. Does anyone have any pictures of where the freshwater washdown tank is installed? How hard is it to remove the deck there to access that area?

The tank was center aft right up against the motor well dam. You should see a hatch panel that is about 2 feet wide and 18 inches or so deep. My numbers may be off but the panel is obvious. It is held in with 6 screws and caulking. It may have various rubber shims under the lip to level it. Try to go slowly prying it up (after slicing the caulk and removing the screws). Remove shims and make notes where they were for reassembly.

Very tempting to use that space for something, like tackle storage or base for live bait well.

The space is not waterproof and gets wet if the bilge gets water. In addition, the fuel hose to the fuel filter from the tank pickup runs through the tank space, clamped off to one side. Some folks add a hatch to make storage space and maybe that works out for something like a second anchor but I think it is not a good spot for a livewell.

Hey Jason,, I made mine a storage for rod holders and down rigger weights (leads). Installed removable floor boards, hinges, a slam latch and a hatch stay spring to hold it open. I also have my on board battery charger fastened to one end with the leads going to both batteries. Did it a few years ago and all appears to work well.

If you’re going to be chasing ahi/mahi/ono you'll probably want a fishbox for the deck. Use the built-in port and stbd “fishboxes” for storing extra gear/lures. Adding a deck box (270 Aussie/250 yeti/5’3” fiberglass) will cover up the access panel during normal use.

If you’re fishing calm water (Waianae/Kona) you can probably get away with installing in the freshwater tank location as it would be easy to access but you’ll have issues with losing bottom in chop or on plane. I have a 2005 208 and installed an Airmar B175M (chirp flush mount 1kW same profile as B164) about a foot forward of the transom and 6” stbd of the keel. Installation was a pain reaching into the bilge through the ports in the splashwell but it will hold bottom at trolling speed and most of the time on plane at 16 knots.

I live windward side. mainly fish out of Heeia or Hawaii Kai.
I will send you a pm. I could use some pointers. The boat gets here next week, and am planning out some of the basic stuff, like bait well for opelu and sliding trailer tongue.
