Hello, has anyone had any experience with these transducers? I currently have a pair of Garmin 8610xsv with a Garmin GT51M transducer in my 2003 Sailfish 282. Everything works great but most charter guys are using the Airmar B175HW with great results. I plan to run with two transducers, one for sideview and one for Sonar.

I visited my local Grady dealer and they highly recommended going with the Airmar M285HW in hull to avoid cutting another hole in the hull. The Airmar needs a 3 1/2" hole.

Does anyone have any experience with the in hull transducers? I am being told that they work great on the Grady's because of the solid hull material.

Thanks!

B175/B285/M285 are the same functionally except M does not have water temp.(your GT51 will give you water temp so thats not an issue)
Do you currently have an old thru hull? If so, replacing it with a B285 will save time and money and get rid of the old thruhull.
Does yor Sailfish have the flat spots for mounting thruhulls? If so, get the B285. B285 is only a 1-3/16" hole

The M285 is definitely the easiest install. You may lose a little power but the hull is solid glass and it is a 1kw xducer.
I didn't even know they made an M285...Hmmmmm?..... I would go with that if you don't already have an old thruhull that you can replace with the B285

I have an old R199 inhull that works great but its a 2Kw xducer.

Is your GT51M a transom mount or a thruhull?

Hi. Thanks for your reply. My GT51 is a thru hull mounted on the flat mount on the port side of the 282 hull. I also have an old transducer on the starboard side that is not in use. I could install it there, but I think it would end up costimg me about $1000 more to pay for removal and reinstall of the B285 and the additional cost of the transducer itself. I can install the inhull easily myself.

Lastly, i only see the B285 for a furuno 10 pin. Are you aware of a part number for a garmin 8 pin?

read this https://www.airmar.com/Customer-Support/Connector-Guide

I think Airmar now ships with their own connector and you get an adapter for Mfgers.

B/M285 is CHIRP so it probably uses Garmin Orange 12 pin to Garmin MFDs

Garmin also has adapters for various pinouts. There is always the barewire to 12 pin (or 8 pin)
