If I were to add a Standard Horizon GX2400 Vhf to my nmea 2000 network, would the ais symbols appear on my Simrad GO 9? The catalog brochure only states that the ais symbols appear on the vhf display, however it also states that the vhf supports all ais sentences. Anyone out there using a GX2400?

I have a GX2200 that uses the NMEA0183 connected to my Garmin mfd. AIS symbols appear on my chart.
The GX2400 sends it over NMEA2k so its really easy. Just connect to the N2k network.
Assuming your GO9 supports AIS it should work.
Its a great function. I like seeing AIS so much I just got a transponder so they can see ME.

If you are thinking of getting a transponder, don't spend on the AIS version of VHF now because the transonder receives also and puts the symbol over N2k

Thanks Skunk, I have the GX 2100 but dont want to have to buy a 0183 to 2k converter. If I can buy the GX2400 right it would give me what I want with a lot less work.

oh I see SIMRAD Go9 doesn't have NMEA0183. I guess they will all start dropping that sooner or later

Yep. I'm just saying if you are ever going to get an AIS B Transponder then save your money and don't worry about VHF with AIS receiving. Use the GX2100 just for VHF.

HEHEHEH spend MORE money to SAVE money

I had a GO7 connected via N2K to a Simrad VHF with built in AIS. Targets appeared on the MFD.

Do N2K if you can….it’s plug and play.

Thanks I have a 2k network and love it, wanted to make sure the gx2400 would export the ais info to the plotter.
