Does anyone know about how many feet of anchor rope can be stored in the locker of a 272 Sailfish? I just got a windless and was hoping to carry 600'.

Thanks

I have 600' in my 25 Sailfish with 8 plait. Does ok. I did though drag about 300' down into the forward storage hatch to allow more free fall room and if needed, it will pull through from the hatch into the anchor locker.
Check yours and see if it has the small opening also. There are 2 layers where water will drain down the V in the hull and into the bilge, then the bottom of the forward hatch will be flat, just above the V and with a small opening into the anchor locker.
Mine had some rough fiberglass in this area that I cut out and smoothed over to keep from any hangups.

Hope I explained it well enough to help figure out what is going on up there.

Thanks! I think I know where you are speaking. It is the compartment that houses the water heater (at least on mine). I think there is an opening.

I hope you keyed in on Robert's use of plaited rope. I don't think 3 strand would give you the capacity you're looking for. It piles waaayyy different!

Yes, very true statement that I should have underlined and bolded!

Not sure where or if you have shopped for the anchor rode, but checking back I got mine from Seco South. https://cableloft.com/anchor-rodes.html

Lots of folks recommended and price could not be met with any other place I checked.

Checking now on the 8 plait, 1/2" with 15' of 1/4" galv. High test chain, is $644 ish. Wow it has gone up. I don't recall paying nearly that much before, but the rode is excellent. Would hate to replace it nowdays!

The 8 plait is claimed to store with 30% less space than 3 strand and does not kink, etc.

I just replaced mine on a 282 Sailfish and used 300 feet of 3 strand twisted and 30 feet of chain. The bow rode locker was less that half full. Recogizing you do not wat to jamb the locker full, I would guess you could easily do 450 feet.

I replaced mine, the chain looked suspect as I found rust on some of the links. I'm proud to say in a Sailfish 282 you can store 500' of 5/8" 8-plait in the anchor locker as well as 35' of 1/4" chain.
