Any 265 owners here who have earlier model with Yamaha 225 or 250 4 strokes ? If so I’m wondering about the extra weight aft and did it present any problems or issues that weren’t tolerable IE., holding water in cockpit or affect ride in any way ? Was transom sturdy enough for the extra weight or was the later models changed in anyway to accommodate the 4 strokes ?

many thanks
Pat

The hull was changed in 2002 to accommodate the new Yamaha f225 four strokes. The scuppers were slightly raised at that time as well as the deadrise was decreased slightly.

hello Pat, what what year do you have and what are you thinking of repowering with ?

Looked at one that has the 225’s that originally had the 2 strokes. Heard they squat a bit due the extra weight. Wondering how cockpit drains ... is that a problem ?

I have a 2000 265. It had 2 stroke 225s and when tanks were full the scuppers were underwater when sitting. Water never came in to the deck even in bumpy stuff.
Just replaced with 4 stroke Suzuki 200s. Roughly... added 200 pounds. Sits about the same as the 2 strokes did when light with lttle fuel....Scuppers up and out.
Just put 60 gallons in each tank (half full each) and scuppers are 3/4 covered. Normally I would not fill this way. I prefer to fill front tank(130gl) and use the rear tank only when I need to.
Boat rides much better than when weight is in rear. Scuppers are higher too.

So far I don't see a problem with the added weight but I haven't fill them yet.

Thanks for that.... appreciate it !
How would you rate the ride and characteristics of the 265 ? Would it compare or exceed that of a 26 regulator ?

I don't think you'll find any express ride compare to a center colsole Regulator if you mean speed and handling.
I think a Regulator is narrower and lighter.

The 265 Express is certainly drier and more comfortable and actually has room to fish at the stern.
It handles 3 to 5 very well at speed. I rate it as AWESOME!

edit:
OH! I didn't even think there was a Regulator Express... I've only been on CCs.
So its still narrower, lighter and pretty sure it has 24 degree deadrise, so it will probably run faster in crap but wobble like hell on a drift.

I am lucky enough to fish both my 265 and a regulator 26 express. The regulator is faster and rides better, but the cabin sucks compared to the 265. And I like the 265 helm much better. Since I have a wife and two daughters, Grady white makes more sense to me.

Thanks for that info !
I was looking at the Hull ride comparison as I had purchased new one of the first 26 Regulators made albeit the center console before moving upward through various inboard diesel express boats. I currently have a 23 Jones LTE we use for messing around the bay and occasionally heading off on bluebird days. Exploring options to replace the pilot house I had sold. The 265 is on the short side of my list as I am on the hunt for something closer to the 30 (a little more possibly).

had a 2001 265 that had Yamaha 2006 225 4 strokes never an issue with it even loaded for overnight trips in the canyon. the boat was a beast for a 26.

to the questions on the reg 26 my buddy had a 26 reg CC and we fished the hell out of it, great hull can handle the slop and a bullet compared to the 265 but the comfort and everything else you get with the 265 is very nice. Did not know they made a 26 express only the 30????

both boats are fantastic just have to figure out what you are going to use it for and what fits your needs better.

thanks... How was the 265 on the drift ?

thought it was probably better than most 26 ftrs bc of the beam. in general it felt s lot bigger than a 26, overall great layout and loved the center helm.
