I found a boat that is a several hour drive that has 2005 F225s. I have 2 questions:
1. Does anyone have experience on a 272 with these motors? I know they don’t have the variable camshaft timing like the ‘05 250’s. Is this boat a dog to get going and what speeds can I expect?
2. The motors have 170 original hours confirmed by a Yamaha tech according to the dealer. The low hours do worry me a bit but the boat is in excellent shape and has been stored under cover. Trying to get a new bot before the summer starts. Thanks guys!

I have a 2002 282 with said power, 1800 hours and spinning. Best cruise range depending on conditions and loading is 3700-3800 rpm, 14-16 gph doin 28-30 mph. Trimming out is a factor. Plenty of torque to get out of the hole in sloppy seas. I see no reason for the 250's, though if I repowered that's probably what I would do for resale and questions such as this one. WOT will do 45mph.

The low hours would spook me more than anything else, that thing has done A LOT of sitting and these motors generally just don't like to sit around. If they run fine though and you can sea trial I'd do it at the right price!!

I had a 2000 Sailfish which I bought new with Yam 225 OX66s. Awesome boat but sucked fuel and oil! Loved it though!

I would have the mid section exhaust scoped on F225 for corrosion. Agree on the low hours. Hopefully it was stored properly.

I would definitely have the exhaust scoped. Even with low hours they can be corroded. Ask fishtails. I think it’s like a 4K per motor fix.
