I run a G/W 228 with Evinrude 200HP 2-stroke. At cruise, 4000 rpm, I get around 2 MPG, depending on load, sea conditions, etc. I've run Yami 2-strokes before, ran very good, but gas hogs. I'd be surprised if you did much (any?) better than me. Good Luck,

I have a 228 seafarer w/ a 1994 yamaha 200 hp 2 stroke. I get right around 2mpg...again depending on sea conditions, and how fast I go. I was wondering about this same question, as I am looking to repower in the future with something more fuel efficient. What do Seafarers get with a new 4-stroke, HPDI, or E-tec? Does anyone get close to 4mpg?

I have the same setup as you.I don`t keep a log so what I say is from memory. Also the first thing I added to my boat was a floscan, not so much for the mileage factor but to know exactly how much fuel I had in my tank.I trim and throttle while watching the gauge to get the best rpm`s at the best gph.I can get about 43 mph with a calm sea at full throttle. My best burn is at 3600 rpm`s @10 gph.If memory serves me I`m doing somewhere around 27mph.I could be alittle off on my numbers because it`s been about 6 months since I was out last,Maybe I should start keeping a log. :wink:When I mentioned trim, that was in regard to the engine and not the tabs.

40-42% better mpg is what you will get by moving to the newer Etec 2 stroke. What you may get w/ a 4-stroke, I would not know..

I have a 1999 228 with a Yammy 225SW and in perfect conditions I get about 1.7 mpg- these motors have a reputation for being hogs

My 226 has a 200 yami, both 1994. According to the Navman I'm burning 12 gph at 4400, right at 30 mph. The best burn is about 3800, 10.5 gph at about 27 mph. Anything over 4500 and the engine turns into a huge pig. I had 20 gph show at wot, but I was hitting 40-41 mph on the GPS. I guess the fuel burn with the old technology is going to be around 2-2.5 mpg.

My brother has a 228 which he just repowered with a used ox 66 fuel injected. I am anxious to see if his fuel burn improves.

My engine is a 1998 salterwater series OX66,and I concider it as a very reliable trouble free engine. The only way that I would repower[$18K or more]is if it were cost effiecent to do so and I`m no where near that point.
