Ok, some of you know my 1.25 year old Magic Trail trailer with its lovely NGS or what ever they are disc brakes failed two weeks ago. So my local trailer RV repair guy pressed them for new parts for warranty work. The guy at the brake manufacturer said every worthy skipper knows to put pledge furnisher polish on the actuator and internal parts to prevent corrision and rust. He said had we done that it would still be in good shape, yet their warranty info and instructions make no mention of this old salt wisdom of using pledge furnisher polish. They did pony up the parts. what bugs me is I have NEVER submerged the actuator and as much as I love being on the high seas, my Grady unfortunately spends most of her hours on freshwater lakes. This thing was rusted all over.

So, do any of your trailering mates use Pledge on your actuator systems? If so, how in the heck do you get it internal to the actuator piston and so forth? The folks who did the work coated the piston and springs with a good water proof marine grease before they assembled it.

How Bout It Smokey! You seem to have had rough season this go round. Brakes are a minor thing when compared to the engine problems that you had previously. Naturally the only way to coat those internal parts with snake oil, oops! I meant Pledge, I would think would be to disassemble the actuator. Brake Fluid however has a funny way of reacting with contaminants. I have never heard of this trick. I would think that your system must have gotten water from somewhere, possibly condensation as she was sitting. Who knows? Maybe we should fill our brake systems with furniture polish instead? :hmm

Sounds like you're in for trouble in another year if you didn't pledge those new parts. :bang On your next service maybe try some Kodiaks. My actuator is a Titan and it has done well also. Just curious, Did he say pledge to your face or was that over the phone? Thats a good one! I checked google and the only mention of pledge on brakes is yours. Congratulations you own it!

Guys, I am dead serious. The guy in TN told me to use pledge. He was on the phone and he was not joking in the least. He further told Nick at Fallen's RV in Whittier, NC and Ben Fallen the owner to use pledge!!!! I am at a loss. My past trailer had Tie Downs, but I have read much about Kodiak. It is the way I am going to go. I kind of wonder if we should use PAM on the hull to get more speed and fuel economy out of her? What do you think of that?

I have had a horrible year with alot of things. I am very dilligent on service. My boat is kept under cover of a big metal shed on a conrete slab. She is covered from tongue to motor. I dont drive recklessly or hot on the throttle with sudden stops and so forth. My motor failure is a mystery to me. The trailer's wheels were torn down, repacked before I went to the Keys. The breaks inspected and everything was in working order. I just shake my head .. B O A T . Break Out Another Thousand....has been the word of the year.

My wife was towing our featherlight camper home from Florida. She stayed behind as her dad had a stroke. I was in Valdosta Georgia on Augustt 2nd picking the pieces and helping her get home when she was blown off the I 75 and the camper bounced off the guard rail and subsequently jack knifed and messed up our SUV. It was a blessing I still have a family today as she and my 3 kids were in the car and nobody inside our car or anyone else was injurred at all.

I will give Tonya credit, she handled it well and the camper did not roll, just banged up a little. She can back the boat trailer down any ramp with ease. Just a bad case of what ever these past few months. Hope it is over.

My trailer guy said spray WD-40 on everything including rotors. It burns off on heated surfaces. Haven't had a problem since. Spray after each trip and haven't had a braking problem.
