What is the preferred product to bed railing stantions and hinges?
Silicone III?
4200?
How do you keep 4200 from making a mess on the gelcoat? I know with silicone, you let it dry then cut off the excess with a razor.
thanks

Silicone will clean up with soap and water if you hit it before it dries. On 4200 you can use acetone.

Bingo. :) When I bed somethign using 4000, 4200 or 5200 I wipe up what I can with a dry rag or papertowels. Then I used a cloth dipped in acetone to clean up. If I really want it to look perfect, I dip and old tooth brush in the acetone and scrub around whatever piece of hardware I was bedding. That gets all the sealant out of crevices, screw heads, etc. but the bristles are thick enough that they can't penetrate between the hardware and and deck.

Bingo, that's exactly the info I was looking for. I used silicone in the past but I didn't feel that was the best. The trick is also to use just the right amount. I like the toothbrush idea. Maybe I can even put it back in the rack before she finds out. thanks again.
